[PS4] inFAMOUS: Second Son

inFAMOUS Second Son is an open-world, action adventure game set in Seattle. The main character, Delsin Rowe, finds out he is a Conduit or a “Bio-terrorist” after absorbing the powers of another Conduit when they had an encounter. The game follows the story of Delsin as he makes it his mission to take down the D.U.P director, Brooke Augustine and absorb her powers to save his community. The trailer below pretty much shows the awesome graphics that can be seen in the game.

It’s an open-world adventure so there are a number of side quests that can be done if you’re not in the mood to continue the main story just yet. Most of the side quests involve defeating a small group of people (drug dealers, gang members, etc.), vandalizing properties, defeating D.U.P, chasing secret agents, collecting shards, and many more.

Players are also given a choice between Good Karma & Bad Karma which basically allows you to choose between becoming the good guy or the bad guy. I ultimately chose “Good Karma” so helping people or healing them with my powers added to my Good Karma. Collecting good karma (or evil karma) helps in filling up a bar that allows Delsin to perform a powerful move that can take out a number of enemies all at once. Pretty epic.

The choice of being either the hero or the anti-hero affects the outcome of the game. I don’t know yet how the “Bad Karma” ends but I am pretty satisfied with my choice. RadBrad, everyone’s favorite gamer on YouTube, has a walkthrough of the whole game and both the outcomes so you might want to check that out if you’re interested.

In this game, since Delsin’s power is pretty much like Peter Petrelli’s from Heroes (absorbs powers), we get to experience several powers: smoke, neon, video & concrete. My favorite would be a mix of neon (for combat) and video (for flying, hovering). I didn’t really get to use concrete much because Delsin only got the ability towards the end and even though I still played the game to complete the side quests, I never really liked concrete all that much so I decided to just use the powers I was already accustomed to.

After completing the game, I decided to play the DLC – Paper Trails. This takes Delsin all over Seattle chasing a Conduit with a “paper” power. Sounds weird but it’s actually pretty cool. The mysterious girl takes Delsin to various crime scenes where he is supposed to find clues to get to the bottom of the whole thing. He takes photos of the crime scene which is then uploaded to the Paper Trail website for it to be investigated. What I don’t like about this is that I needed to open the said website on my laptop, investigate or solve the puzzles and then go back to the game and then this process repeats itself a number of times which annoyed me a great deal. There were puzzles that took time to solve but thanks to our friend, Mr. Google, I was able to get a whole lot of help from people who have solved the puzzles beforehand. =)

All in all, this was a fun game with various side quests but in my opinion, the side quests became tedious and repetitive after awhile. I literally just finished them just so I can see that “100%” completion in the game. The satisfaction is just heavenly. haha..
